This blog is dedicated to men and women who are serious about wanting to lose weight and get into shape. I'm not promising you that in a few months from now you're going to be a super fit athlete, you may not end up looking like the people you see on TV but that's not my goal here. My goal is to get you healthy and teach you how to lose weight without sacrificing all the foods you love to eat and most importantly, to teach you how to keep the weight off after you lose weight. so lets get started.
My method is simple but not original "eat less, exercise more" meaning if you burn more calories than you eat you will lose weight, that sounds simple right? it's not. If you have a typical 8am-5pm Monday through Friday office job, you may find it difficult to get the exercise you really need to lose up to 2 pounds a week. The only time you could get any meaningful workout is during lunch break or after you get home but a lot people just want to have some dinner and relax on the couch after a long day a work and unless your willing to use that time to workout it will not happen. The only other option is to wake up at least 30 minutes earlier than you already do, and use that extra time to get the exercise so desperately need to lose weight.
Experts say that 30 minutes of exercise a day is very good, and they are right. But if you really want to make an impact on your weight loss goal the average person will need (at least) 40 to 60 minutes per day, 4 to 5 times a week while lowering your caloric intake. Men should not consume less than 1500 calories per day and women should have no less than 1200 calories. The reason I say no less instead of no more is because many people try to go on potentially dangerous low calorie plans where they eat no more than 800 or even 600 calories a day and that is not healthy. Unlike weight watchers which allows you to have a certain amount of extra calories AKA points per week, my routine does not let me have any extra calories, I believe this sets up certain people for failure including myself. However I still believe weight watchers is "the best" weight loss program on the market and it's the only one I recommend.
Getting back to exercising: If you don't mind going outside to get your exercise that you need, I suggest hiking, swimming, jogging, walking or cycling. I don't suggest running because it has a higher impact on your joints which could cause problems later on, but other than that I have no problems with running. If you're someone who prefers the privacy of your home there are alternatives, such as Tae Bo with Billy Blanks or using a treadmill or an elliptical trainer. Personally I have a better time with my elliptical it doesn't require any special equipment like weights, steps and DVDs etc. Ellipticals are also better for you if you like running because they have significantly less impact on your joints.
If you find it difficult to get 40 to 60 minutes of exercise I suggest inviting a friend to help keep you on track to reach your weight loss goals. A friend or a close family member who can encourage you to keep going may be what you need.
Remember, it's not the foods that you aren't eating, it's how much and how often you eat, with the right amount of exercise and proper eating habits anyone can lose weight. There is no reason for anyone to be overweight.
